get there from here…

so i live in maine, and up here for whatever the pertinent reason may be; they say “you can’t get there from here” a lot. with that said i aim to prove that theory wrong, in terms of my own daily and longterm life of course…i can get there form here, from where i am…i can’t get anywhere i damn well please! clearly i have to come up with a clear where…and then the rest of the path shall be written. the where i need to be is pretty well spelled out for me me at this point in time, i need to for certain reasons that shall remain unidentified for the time being; for example start eating WAAAY more veggies, WAAAY less sugar and i NEED to start doing my FIRM videos again (god i love aerobics…i know, i am a dork but i am also a spaz, so what can i say?!)…

i have the application YUMMYSOUP! on my MAC which i loove but leave underutilized due to the plethora of recipes i need to download to it’s data base…it’s truly amazing and overwhelming the number of different things that i want to try cooking at any given time, goo goo i tell you!

detox…

hey there…

i know i haven’t put anything significant up as of of late, but i am in front of a computer 40 hours week, so…sometimes, it’s the last place i wanna be, in front of my giant-ass 27 inch mac…i needed a slight media detox this past week. hang in there, i’m coming with some good stuff…

enjoy the tidbits in the meantime…

well…ain’t she sassy!

this lady is pretty bad ass i’d have to say, i found this link on the “a lovely venture” site where i have signed up for a series of on-line classes for women who want to unleash their creative being on a business idea, model or plan. it’s got all the steps to get you there, resources, interviews, ideas, inspiration, etc, etc…i am super excited to be taking these classes and can not wait to get all the expert advice and tidbits from the lovely lady who runs the show and seems to really truly have her shit together!!! she’s my new hero, both of these ladies actually…and my mom and grandmom of course are always on that list!

d.i.y. network Blog Cabin in Maine!

ah-hem, big fat F.Y.I….the d.i.y. network has chosen their next “Blog Cabin” home reno project to be in Waldoboro (Waldaburah…if you’re from there, which i’m not so i probably shouldn’t say, but whatev; i live in Maine, close enough says me!) Maine! As a matter of fact it’s right up the road from my chiropractor!

anyhow, irrelevant facts aside, this is pretty cool seeing as how the company heading the demo, reno, etc. project is the knickerbocker group which is based out of the little town i live in. they do fabulous work, fabulously expensive! but seriously…really lovely work, on really expensive homes; for the most part.

oh, and did i mention…my husband is doing the painting! yeah, cause he’s that good! really, he is though! no idea if he’s gonna make the big screen; i am sure he’d tell me…maybe. or i would see him on t.v. one day and and i would say “uh hellooo, WTF?” and then he’d be all like “oh..yeah, i forgot to tell you…”!

so anywhosie…here is the link, check out their blog!

Blog Cabin.

willpower is a muscle…flex it

so i learned a thing or two about willpower and the fact that is is more like a muscle then we’d ever realized. myself in particular, well my willpower is currently equivalent  to that of a very flaccid muscle (or group of muscles, let’s say my abdominal region) that has long since been stretched and flexed and worked until it quivers! the fact remains that the human body is an amazing machine and muscles are an integral part of the physiology of the human body…and i aim to use my muscles to get back in shape this year and to start looking and feeling my best; and to get what i want and need. hmmm, you could take that last line to mean a couple of things, whatever floats your boat.

muscles are resilient, there is no doubt of that…and thank you for that indeed, because without the ability for resolve things would never get done! i do acknowledge that there is a lot of resolving going on this time of year that does in fact go undone, i’ll be the first to attest to that in years past…nonetheless my resolve and willpower has always been there, i’ve just never taken the opportunity to follow through with some (okay, okay MOST) of the things i resolve to do each new year. however like i stated in an earlier post, this IS the year of doing, a year of gratitude (more to come on that), a year of happening, a year of un-funking myself if you will, or de-funking, whatever! not that i don’t love funk…i love funk music (specifically the parliament funkadelic); but i do not like myself in a funk, and i mean to change that and make use of all of my muscles this year.

here are some more interesting tidbits about willpower:

  •  we’re wired for it, really…it’s called pause and plan…
  • it fluctuates…like i said, it’s like a muscle, so feed it like one…you eat sugar you crash, you eat veggies you sustain…
  • guilt does not work…don’t fall prey to “moral licensing”, in other words don’t self-sabotage…
  • there are three (3) parts: the “i will”, “i won’t” and the “i want”…figure out what you will do, like it or not; figure out what you won’t do, fall asleep on the couch; and then figure out the i want based on…well, what you want! or you could call them goals, figure out what you want and why it’s worth it…then step it out.

use all the parts together and you will soon see the workings of resolve and willpower…flexing your muscles never felt so good! even if it was only for yourself and only in your mind or on a piece of paper…or in an online journal! btw…since my ramblings of the article i read on this may not read as eloquently as the article itself, or translate for you at all for that matter, here is the link…

http://kellymcgonigal.com/

dr. kelly mcgonigal was a contributor to the article in february’s whole living issue (referencing w.l. again! yes, again!). apparently it is not on the whole living website so if you can pick up the issue it’s a good article. or you can check her website out to read all about your flaccid willpower muscle and how to flex it! yay!

deviate from your norm this year…

happy new year…i know that this appears to be belated but this was posted elsewhere until i found wordpress and realized typepad was not for me! i wish everyone a safe and happy 2012! may it be full if felicity, prosperity and good health! something (else) that i’ve been pondering trying is the “21 day challenge” featured in february’s whole living issue…if anyone else is joining in let me know! here is the link…

http://www.wholeliving.com/

i think this will be the perfect start to a new year full of potential and an excellent way to hone my gratitude skills…like remembering to be grateful for my health and well-being, for good nutritious foods, for good old regular exercise! that’s something i desperately need to re-learn to appreciate!

gratitude is an attitude

well, here goes nothing…i’ve thought about starting a blog for about 2 plus years or so and am finally going to follow through with one of the many ideas i have for feeding my creative soul!!! for sure something like this was & has been much needed for a while now…

as with everything this year, this space is a work in progress; and by everything i do mean EVERYTHING…head to toe, inside and out, you name it and it’s getting a work-over! i’ve had some personal experiences this year that have given me good reason to recharge and revamp myself! and even though i like so many others with good intentions create my little list of to-do’s for the new year, i’ve decided this IS the year, no if, ands or buts about it! with that said, it will also take a bit of time to figure out all these techno specs that i’m not completely used to…so bear with me!

over the past couple of years i’ve contemplated what i would write about on a blog and if anyone would even read it…and i’ve decided that the best fit for me would be writing about everyday life as it happens, to me and my hopefully growing family (hopefully growing sooner then later!), to our animals deuce and rosie, to our gardens, to our home sweet home, and so on and so forth.

indeed i think this will be a space to reflect and hopefully grow as a person and to share all of my favorite things with the world; because i love so many wonderful things you know, and it would be a shame not to share!

in closing i would like to reitterate that as with everything this year this journal (i think i like that better then blog!) will be a work in progress…i am applying this theory to everything this year, a year of gratitude you could say, with a lifetime of it being the ultimate prize…”gratitude is attitude” is my motto this time around and i’ll be looking for felicity from now on everywhere all the time!

enjoy!
